Surfaces / From image to reference
A similar surface is not the same design.
From an inspiring image to a supplier film reference: the checks between a visual match and something you can actually order.

A photograph can suggest candidates, not prove identity.
Match the decor reference, colourway and film construction.
Confirm the physical sample before purchasing.
The image is a starting point
A customer sends a room photograph and asks for that floor. Another sends a close-up of a panel. Neither request begins with a film supplier or a decor code. The first task is therefore to turn an appearance into a set of references worth investigating.
Our proposed design-search workflow separates three steps: finding visual candidates, confirming their identity and checking whether they can be purchased for the intended product. A result from one step should not pretend to complete the others.
Follow the reference beyond the colour
Schattdecor’s range includes printed PP and PVC foils for thermoplastic flooring applications. Its Vinyl Print information describes a PVC foil used with other layers. This is a useful reminder that the visible pattern and its material carrier are different pieces of product information.
A candidate record should keep the supplier’s decor reference, colourway, film type and available technical information together. If repeat dimensions, texture or a factory’s selected finish matter to the order, request those details explicitly. A familiar-looking oak name is not a unique identifier.
What a similarity number should mean
A future matching tool needs to explain its score: which catalogue it searched, which image was compared and what the result represents. A high visual-similarity score would still not establish identical print files, physical colour, material, embossing or the right to reproduce a design.
We will not present a photograph alone as proof of an identical commercial product. An identity claim needs traceable supplier references and confirmation. When the available catalogue does not support a result, the useful answer is that no supported match is available.
The goal is not a convincing percentage. It is a reference you can follow.
Move from screen to sample
RENOLIT’s digital decor information explicitly treats displayed colour as guidance and points users toward physical samples. That distinction belongs in the buying process, even when a digital image seems close.
Compare an agreed physical reference before approving an order. Record what was approved and which commercial product it represents. Do not substitute a screen comparison for a material approval.
What is available here today
Our team holds decorative-film collections from Vietnam’s major manufacturers. We are preparing a member service that uses AI to compare a reference against thousands of designs and return supplier-linked visual candidates.
The public page explains the workflow. Uploads and AI matching are not live in this development edition; no similarity scores or identical-design claims are generated. For décors developed for your own range, see product development.
